There are several National Championship tournaments that you can qualify for through OSDU Tournaments. Please look at the calendar and home page for dates of national tournaments and subsequent qualifying events or processes.

Senior National Championships
The Senior National Championships is held every spring, in CNDF format. OSDU selects a number of team from our annual Senior Provincial Championships to compete in this event. Click here.

Junior National Championships
The Junior Nationals Championships is held every spring, in CNDF format with reduced speaking times, and is usually the last national tournament of the year. OSDU selects a number of team from our annual Junior Provincial Championships to compete in this event. This is open to students in grades 7 to 9. Click here.

BP National Championships ( formerly Oxford Cup )
There are two divisions now at this national event. The senior divisions qualifies teams from Canada to attend both the Oxford Schools and the Cambridge Schools competitions in the UK. The junior division, which has a different definition as being “under-15” qualifies teams for the International Competition for Young Debaters that alternates between Cambridge and Oxford. The Canadian tournament usually take place in late November. OSDU selects teams for both categories from a qualifying tournament held in late October.

French National Championships
The French Nationals is held in the spring each other. It is technically its own tournament, but sometimes is held simultaneously with either the Senior and/or Junior Nationals. OSDU picks teams from the bilingual division of our annual Senior Provincials each year.

CSDF Team Canada Tryouts
This is not technically a tournament, but each year OSDU is invited to select students to try out for Team Canada. OSDU runs a separate application process to select these students. The OSDU tryout process is usually in February, and the CSDF tryout event is usually held immediately before or after the Senior Nationals. Click here.

CSDF National Seminar
This is also not technically a tournament, but an educational debate experience. OSDU selects students for this event late each spring and the event takes early in the following school year. This event is meant for less experienced debaters. Click here.
